Naming our firm...

RIVERSTONE

In selecting a name for our firm that reflects our values, we were looking for words that evoked two seemingly opposite principles—permanence and change. Rivers are powerful forces of nature, cutting and carving paths for thousands of years. Ever changing. Stone is solid. A fool builds on sand while the wise man builds on rock. Rock withstands the harshest storm...yet it is shaped over time by the smallest raindrops.

In combining these two words we were guided by the image of a rough and jagged stone that falls into a river. Over time the current turns the stone against other rocks, knocking off its edges by tumbling and smoothing. This image became the simile for our firm. Our duty as advisors is to guardian our clients’ treasures like a rare and precious stone--exposing it in its natural course to friction that bumps and smoothes; and cautiously avoiding both the rapids where it could be pounded into pebbles and the shallows where the current is too weak to carry it forward. Each client will ultimately withdraw their treasure and when they do, our deepest desire is to present a stone transformed, polished and perfected.
